As of recently, there has been alot of buzz about amino spiking within the industry. It is a scary thought that the companies that you have been tirelessly spending your hard earned money on have been scamming you since the beginning. Promises of protein supplementation and new found muscle growth/recovery. However, what if its all been a lie?
Until the dust settles with all of the people involved, its up in the air who is or was truthfully taking place in these acts. As for now, I just wanted to get you all acquainted with the process.
Dairy prices have risen steadily over the years and that’s no secret. Anyone walking through the aisle at the grocery store to grab a gallon of milk can see this. Now think of a corporation driven on saving all the money possible, while turning around a profit, buying dairy in bulk quantity. There’s alot of expense being thrown around just to accumulate the raw product. Then comes processing, purification, handling, bottling, labeling, etc. Because most of those processes are all run by machines and not paid humans, the cost on labor is minuscule. If you remember though, this is about cutting costs anywhere possible, which is exactly what some of these companies have done.
When you pick up your container of protein, you never questioned whether or not you were getting the labeled amount of protein per serving. Supplement companies were supposed to be your friend, your buddy. Instead, with amino spiking, you have realistically received 5-7g of the 20g of protein that you were promised. Now, you may ask how that can even pass an inspection.
Someone along the way figured out that testing the nitrogen levels of protein can actually fool the machine into thinking there is an adequate amount per serving. This is done by adding some extremely cheap bulk amino acid powders to enhance the reading. The ONLY way to determine if your protein is legitimate, is a mass spec. test to accurately read the content down to the exact. With as much commotion lately, most companies have been put to the test and some stood proud while some needed to make some quick adjustments before the rest of the world grabbed hold of this information.
As far as we can tell, ALL the protein selections at Nutri-Sport have tested positively for the correct amounts. If there was ever mention of a company that was sub-par, we would not allow it to make its way onto our shelves (being an independent nutrition store allows us that flexibility). Since these products aren’t as governed/inspected closely enough, its an issue we must take into our own hands. Protecting the consumer and protecting your gains!
