Everyone knows variety leads to continued progress. Changing variables like numbers of sets, reps
performed, and length of rest intervals ensure that your body doesn’t adapt to the training stimulus you
are providing. The same principle can be applied to make sure your warm up is doing its job.
Think about it, when you first started your current warm up routine, I bet that 10 quick minutes lead to
an elevated heart rate, warm muscles, and maybe even a little sweat. In other words, your warm up was
tough! Not so much anymore.
The purpose of a warm up is to transition your body from a relaxed state to one that induces stress.
If you feel no different after you warm up than you did when you walked through the gym door, take
some initiative and change your methods. With a proper warm up you decrease your risk of injury and
increase your level of performance in the exercise bout that follows.Image may be NSFW.

A good rule of thumb is to monitor your heart rate before and after your warm up. A goal for anyone
about to engage in strenuous exercise is to reach a heart rate of 130 beats per minute.
