There is no question that cardio is an important aspect to fitness along with maintaining optimal body composition. However, there are many different approaches. In this blog entry, we are going to discuss HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), which research studies show is the most effective way to boost the metabolism.
As Ryan demonstrates in the video below, the basic them of HIIT is short, intense bursts. The key is to push yourself as hard as you physically can, which may or may not be as much as the person next to you (who is likely wasting their time jogging anyway).
Keep points:
- Warm up properly (about 5 min)
- Use full body exercises (such as elliptical, pushing/pulling sled
- Go as hard as possible on sprint for 15-20 seconds, then recover for 45 seconds
- After doing the intervals, follow up with a low/moderate intensity cool down
In addition to a solid weight training program as well as good nutrition, you can maximize your results in the most efficient way possible.
